Members of Gloucestershire Lettering Arts recently enjoyed a delightful workshop with Vanessa Peters, creating Art Nouveau-inspired illuminated initials. Drawing inspiration from the elegant designs of Alphonse Mucha, we learned the traditional techniques of gilding using transfer gold leaf before adding delicate watercolour illustrations of honeysuckle, peonies and clematis. Under Vanessa’s expert guidance, each participant created a unique and beautifully illuminated letter. The workshop was both relaxing and inspiring, combining traditional craftsmanship with mindful creativity, and everyone left with a stunning finished piece to treasure.
