We began by exploring the Rotunda script, noting its softer, more open forms compared to the angular Gothic style. Gwyneth’s clear demonstrations and helpful handouts guided us through practising both lowercase and capital letters, alongside inspiring examples of richly decorated medieval pages and creative contemporary interpretations.
In the afternoon, we focused on painting jewel effects to enhance our work. Step by step, Gwyneth showed us how to create cabochons, pearls, and faceted gemstones, emphasising the importance of light and highlight to bring them to life. We experimented with a range of materials, discovering how each could create different luminous effects.
It was a relaxed, enjoyable day filled with creativity and laughter, ending with a wonderful variety of beautiful, individual pieces.
