Decorated Capitals from the Book of Kells with Ann Mason 

Ann’s masterful workshop showed us how to copy decorated letters from the Book of Kells and make them our own – for cards or just for fun. We could have used watercolour or gouache but this was not about wet colour. The intriguing thing was seeing her demonstrate how to use a coloured pencil to get the effect that the letters we drew were painted. Stroke on gentle layer upon layer until the colours take on a burnished sheen. Ann also showed us how to include lovely decorative debossing patterns too delicate to draw otherwise. We all received a wonderful handout pack to make sure we can follow up this valuable lesson.
