AGM 2019

Shirley Smith FRSA presented a wonderful talk on The Duc du Berry and his Glorious Hours (Tres Riches Heures). We learned the history that gave rise to the riches of its owner, how his life was depicted in this prayer book, and how Italian influence on the Limbourg brothers can be seen in their illustrations. Shirley highlighted so many fascinating points about the artwork, about seasonal life, the rich and the poor and the chateaux belonging to the Duc. And Shirley kindly judged our annual calligraphy competition about ‘Theatre and Maps’, declaring Andi Bennett the winner. Andi will hold the Rose Bowl for the next year, with name engraved. Jean Chamberlain was awarded a prize for attending all the workshops in the year.

The illustration below shows the month of April from the ‘Tres Riches Heures’.
