During our workshop with calligrapher Margaret Morgan, we explored creative ways to breathe new life into our accumulated piles of practice sheets and treasured scraps. Inspired by her own need to rationalise her studio space, Margaret guided us in transforming these forgotten pieces into beautifully bound books. With design theory at the heart of her approach, she encouraged us to look beyond the obvious, to play with contrast, continuity, and unexpected juxtapositions, turning discarded fragments into thoughtful compositions. The process of selecting and arranging was as important as the binding itself—challenging yet deeply rewarding—and offered the promise of creating unique memory books that delight the eye while reclaiming precious space on our shelves.
